A public commission project offering a feminist rereading of the stories surrounding Matilda of Flanders and William the Conqueror. The work unfolds in two parts: inside the tower, a route of engraved aluminium strips composes fragmentary first-person narratives, as if Matilda were speaking; at the top, a contemporary statue of Matilda on horseback, standing against patriarchal and colonial statues and built from those same strips, points towards the statue of William and the rue Froide. The piece questions how collective memory is made, the gendered violence of local legends and the place of female figures in public space.
